Welcome to Cakes Fair

CAKE FAIR

It was a great exhibition at Protea hotel, Lekki on Wednesday April 22, 2015.
We were amazes by the display of talents and creativity made from flour. With the modern use of fondant and gum paste, a cake can be almost anything you want

The Wedding Cake
The wedding cake is the traditional celebratory dessert served to the guests at a reception following the ceremony. In our modern Western culture, it is usually a tiered cake that is iced and decorated per the desires of the bride. Achieving a strong cake that can support the decorations while remaining edible can be considered the epitome of skill of the cake artist!

Where it all began…
The wedding cake is a tradition that began back in the Roman Empire. At the time, it was a loaf of bread that the groom broke over the bride’s head as a symbol of his dominance in the marriage. The color of the cake was typically white to symbolize purity. The joint task of the bride and groom cutting the cake was meant to symbolize their first joint task in married life. The gesture of feeding cake to one another was a symbol of the commitment the bride and groom are making.

The classic style of a wedding cake, with successively smaller, stacked tiers, is believed to have first appeared at nineteenth century royal weddings.  But it was not until 1870 that the wedding cake became an actual tiered cake.  And of course we all know how beautiful a cake from a royal wedding can be…

The Contemporary Wedding Cake

Today wedding cakes are as varied as the people getting married. But in all cases, the final design of the cake, to some degree, is a reflection of the tastes of the bride. Simple, yet elegant to the very ornate, wild and over-the-top with lots of “bling” and themed cakes are all accepted. With the modern use of fondant and gum paste, a cake can be almost anything you want!
